My Story
In early 2013, I was diagnosed with stage four endometriosis, a condition where tissue similar to the lining of the uterus—the endometrium—grows outside the uterus. This often occurs on the ovaries, fallopian tubes, intestines, or other areas in the pelvis, leading to chronic pain and, for many, infertility. It’s estimated that 25-50% of women struggling with infertility have endometriosis.
After an unsuccessful laparoscopy, I was informed that the endometriosis had spread to several of my organs, making surgery to remove the lesions and cysts too risky. I was also told that my chances of conceiving were very slim. The specialists recommended a six-month course of Zoladex, a hormone therapy commonly used to manage endometriosis and certain cancers. The idea was that suppressing estrogen could temporarily slow the growth of the endometrial tissue. They explained that after the treatment, I would have only a short window of time to try to conceive before the endometriosis would likely return.
As someone who values science and modern medicine, I understood the logic behind the treatment and its potential benefits. However, I also recognized that in my case, the chances of success were very small, and the side effects of the treatment would be significant. Weighing my options, I saw minimal risk in trying an alternative approach. I had nothing to lose by focusing on healing my body naturally, so I made the decision to pursue a more holistic path alongside my existing understanding of health and nutrition.
I adopted a predominantly vegetarian, gluten-free, and organic diet, focusing on nourishing my body from the inside out. Six months later, rather than wrapping up a course of Zoladex, I found myself pregnant, an outcome I had been told was unlikely. It was an incredible moment, and I felt a renewed sense of purpose in sharing my journey with others who might be facing similar decisions.
This experience led to the creation of Rawspirations, which began as an Instagram account where I shared recipes and lifestyle tips rooted in my approach to natural living. My recipes are plant-based, organic, and free from dairy, gluten, and refined sugars, reflecting my commitment to a wholesome, health-focused lifestyle.
In April 2014, I welcomed a healthy baby boy into the world, and in November 2017, we were blessed with another son. These two little miracles have given my life a new depth of meaning and continue to inspire me to share my journey with others.
While I strongly believe in the importance of science and modern medicine, my personal experience showed me that sometimes, alternative approaches can complement medical advice, particularly when the risks of trying something different are minimal. I encourage others to persist in finding what works for them, whether that involves conventional treatments, holistic approaches, or a combination of both.
A river cuts through rock not because of its power, but because of its persistence. Whatever path you choose, stay committed, explore all possibilities, and make mindful decisions with the time you have. Don’t wait for “someday”, the time is now.
